Open International Internet-Olympiads for higher education students in 2012 (OIIO – Open International internet-Olympiad)

We invite students of the 1st–3rd year of studies to participate in 2011–2012 Open International Internet-Olympiads for Higher Education Students!

The Open International Internet-Olympiads for Higher Education Students (the OIIO Project) is an international multidisciplinary online academic contest. It is a wide-scale assessment of student learning outcomes based on extensive use of the Internet and computer technologies.

The OIIO project has been implemented since 2008; over 53,000 students representing 564 higher education institutions from 15 countries have taken part in the Internet-Olympiads since the launching of the project.

In 2011-2012 the Open International Internet-Olympiad will be organized for undergraduate students of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year of studies in the following subject fields:

  • Mathematics (there will be four rounds: 1st – in March 2012; 2nd – in April 2012; 3rd – in May 2012; 4th (‘Super Final’ in Israel) – in October 2012)
  • Physics, Chemistry, Informatics, Economics, Ecology, Theoretical Mechanics, Strength of Materials (will be held in two rounds: 1st – March – April 2012; 2nd – April – May 2012)

Interdisciplinary Internet-Olympiads for HE students of 2nd–4th years of studies are scheduled for October-December 2012.

The First Round (institutional) is held online in higher education institutions (HEIs). HEIs can choose the date for conducting the Internet-Olympiad within the stipulated time frame.

The Second Round (regional or national in small countries) is conducted simultaneously in the form of online computer testing in a number of selected (‘basic’) HEIs located in different Federal districts of Russia.

The Third Round (International) of the Internet-Olympiad in Mathematics is held off-line: participants submit detailed, well-grounded answers to the Olympiad tasks.

Results of the Open International Internet-Olympiad (OIIO) for higher education students will be available relating the following areas of higher education:

  • Humanities and Law;
  • Forest Management and Agriculture;
  • Specialized (in-depth study of corresponding disciplines);
  • Technics and Technologies;
  • Economics and Management.

The working languages of the OllO-2012 are Russian and English.

According to the results of the First Round, higher education institutions-participants are entitled to:

  • the opportunity to participate in the Interdisciplinary Internet-Olympiads;
  • the analytical report on the outcomes of the HEI’s participation in the Internet-Olympiads.

On behalf of the OIIO Organizing Committee, I invite your higher education institution to contribute to the development of the Olympiad tasks. No participation fee is foreseen for HEIS engaged in this activities. For your institution to be included in the list of HEIs-Olympiad tasks developers, it is necessary to submit a formal application to the Secretariat of the Internet-Olympiads.

Higher education institutions with a small student population are eligible for grant funding through The National Fund for Support of Innovations in Education (NFSIE). The terms and conditions of the grants will be available at www.i-olymp.ru  in January 2012.

Development of the Olympiad Movement will contribute to the promotion of HE student’s engagement in research and scientific activities; development of students' logical thinking, creativity, and interest in scientific research; enhancement of the quality of teaching and learning in higher education institutions; promotion of the image of the socially responsible young researcher; furthering interaction among research schools, professional communities, and higher education institutions at the national, regional and global levels.
